Working on a business to help small businesses - need some help myself

Hey everyone!

I’ve been working on a business idea for the last 6 months designed to help small business. For background, my father is a small business owner and I’ve always been amazed at the amount of work it takes to really keep the machine running.

I’ve been working in marketing for about 6 years, and decided earlier this year to work on this business idea on the side. Given the impact covid is having on businesses, I figured this could be the best time to create something that could help them, and hopefully scale this company as well.

The idea - envision a world where a small businesses could reach new individuals in the area they operate in. Have a product you want to push, or a coupon you want to offer? Totally possible! These kinds of messages can be created and delivered to potential customers on social media, through paid social advertising. Business owners can focus on running their business, and this idea brings in new customers in the background.

The issue - what I’m running into now is the need to actually test the idea out by partnering with small businesses to determine overall impact. All of the local companies I’ve connected with don’t really see the vision, and aren’t interested in trying it out (all of this would be free, as I need to get some learnings here). ***Any tips on how to break through the ice?

I think social marketing's already been invented? Or is something missing from this pitch.

Yes, my question is what problem are you solving? It seems like you have an idea for a service, but you haven’t figured out what your potential client is struggling with. As a business owner, I don’t have time to do favors. But I’m happy to pay someone to take care of my problems or do the things I don’t want to do.

Definately work on that pitch. I have no idea what your offer is. If I want to promote a product I would just run ads on social media. Is that not the same thing?

So it's a matchmaking service similar to fiverr? In my opinion it's difficult to have clients post potfolios of what they want, so that graphic designers can shop the clients. I think it works better the other way around.

It kinda just sounds like someone is writing copy for social posts?

OP, I hope your pitch is better than this explanation
